InterBattery
The stage where Korean battery makers show off their solid-state plans
InterBattery is a battery trade show held every year in Seoul, South Korea (in March in recent years). It is neither a government agency nor a standards body, and it has no power to hand out money or set rules. It appears in this series because Korea's battery makers, Samsung SDI, LG Energy Solution and SK On, use it as the place where they first unveil their solid-state battery roadmaps and prototypes. This profile looks at how much influence the show really has over solid-state batteries, taking care not to overstate it.

1. InterBattery in 30 seconds
Organisers: Korea Battery Industry Association, COEX, KOTRAAs listed for 2026. The secretariat is based at COEX
InterBattery is a trade show, not a government agency or a standards body. We include it because our article tagging classifies it as an institution, but unlike NEDO or Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, it holds no powers at all. Its influence comes from one thing only: it has become the stage on which Korean battery makers announce their solid-state battery plans. Samsung SDI, for example, first unveiled its mass-production roadmap for a 900 Wh/L solid-state battery at InterBattery 2024 Sourced. In other words, the numbers that come out of the show are the companies' own claims, not figures the show has checked.
2. What kind of body it is: the four types of influence
Unlike the companies in this series, none of the institutions that appear in solid-state battery coverage makes batteries. What separates them is the route by which they influence the industry, and that gives four types.
3. What happens there on solid-state batteries
InterBattery itself decides nothing about solid-state batteries. What happens is that exhibitors announce their own solid-state batteries there Sourced. The main announcements we could confirm from primary sources are listed below.

The three 2026 items are announcements that companies and the host issued before the show about what they "planned to present". They are not the organisers' record of what was actually shown on the floor. Figures for the exhibits, such as "1,000 Wh/L class", are the companies' own claims.
Trade-show announcements are how companies choose to present themselves, with no peer review and no third-party checks. On the other hand, the show is sometimes the moment when mass-production dates and target energy densities first appear as numbers; Samsung SDI's 900 Wh/L is one example. For a materials supplier, InterBattery is a single place to compare which approaches (sulfide-based and others) Korea's three battery makers are putting front and centre. In 2026 the host's press release also described purchasing consultations between materials, parts and equipment companies and buyers from the three Korean battery makers, so the show is also a way into the Korean battery supply chain Sourced.

The 77,250 figure is the visitor count for the whole show, not the number of people interested in solid-state batteries. The 107,000 visitors in the European edition's 2025 show report are for the whole event, including the co-located The smarter E Europe, and the European edition itself had only 93 exhibitors and 235 booths (49 exhibitors and 105 booths from outside Korea) Sourced. The "200 exhibitors, 400 booths and 115,000 visitors" on the official site were the organisers' pre-show expectations Sourced. The Korea Battery Industry Association's member search lists POSCO Future M, LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, SK On and others among its board-level member companies Sourced. In other words, the industry association that runs the show and the show's main exhibitors are largely the same companies. The association's website does not give its current total number of members.

- Host and organiser
- A distinction commonly used for Korean events. The host is the body that lends its name and holds nominal responsibility; the organisers are the bodies that actually run the event.
- Korea Battery Industry Association (KBIA)
- An industry association of Korean battery makers and materials and equipment suppliers. Founded in 2011 under an earlier Korean name.
- COEX
- A large exhibition and convention centre in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and the company that operates it.
- KOTRA
- The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, a government-affiliated body that helps Korean companies export and meet overseas buyers.
- Sulfide-based all-solid-state battery
- An all-solid-state battery whose solid electrolyte is a sulfur-containing compound. Ions move easily through it, but many of these materials are sensitive to moisture.
