About Troy-Technical

Troy-Technical collects company announcements, papers and patent information from around the world every week across 19 technology fields — materials, semiconductors, energy, medical and bio — and publishes them in an organised, readable form. It is run by one person as an independent, personal site. It is not operated by any company or organisation.

About the author

I am an engineer who has spent my career in materials development at materials manufacturers.

I completed a graduate degree in chemistry in 1993 and joined a company that processes chemical materials. I changed employers once along the way, but I have worked in materials development throughout.

My work has been to visit customers, listen to what they needed, and develop and propose new materials that answered it. Because I worked downstream in the materials industry, my customers were in other industries — electronics makers, automotive makers, component suppliers. Many were overseas, and I travelled abroad frequently.

I do not publish my name. I still work in this industry, and I want to avoid any confusion between what I write here and the position of any particular company. Nothing on this site represents the view of any organisation I belong to; it is published on my own responsibility. For questions or corrections, please use the contact address below.

Areas I know best: coatings, films, and pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes.
For the other fields, I follow the primary sources and organise what I learn as I go. I am not an expert in all 19 fields.

Why I built this site

It started from a gap I kept noticing: the industry information available inside Japan differs from what circulates overseas.

Solid-state batteries, perovskite solar cells, hydrogen energy. In the fields where development is moving fastest, there is a great deal of activity outside Japan. Catching that current early matters on the ground in development work.

With AI, translation takes a moment. Anyone can reach overseas information if they set out to. But engineers, planners and sales staff inside companies are extremely busy, and finding the time to gather and verify information themselves is difficult. That was exactly my own situation.

What this site aims at is simple: that information crosses the border of language and reaches engineers and planners who care, sooner.

How the information is made

I use AI to gather the information. I would rather state that plainly.

  1. Collection: each week, AI gathers public information for every field — company announcements, papers, patents, trade media.
  2. Selection: from what is gathered, articles showing real technical progress are prioritised and narrowed to about ten per field. Pure market forecasts and funding announcements are generally not used.
  3. Summary and translation: AI summarises and translates, and the URL of the original article is always included.
  4. Checking: I review the content, and anything whose source is uncertain is not published.
  5. Explainers: the technology and company guides are written from the collected articles and primary sources. Where something could not be confirmed, it is stated as not confirmed.

Because AI is involved, errors are possible. For anything that matters to a decision, please check the original announcement.

Fields and publishing schedule

For each of the 19 fields, the following is published every week.

  • About ten articles per field (the previous week’s information, compiled each Sunday)
  • A weekly report (PDF) and a podcast for each field
  • Technology and company guides (being expanded field by field)
