COMPANY PROFILE / ADHESIVES & ENCAPSULANTS

DELO
A privately held German specialist that sells the whole "cure it with light in seconds" process, not just the adhesive

DELO is an industrial adhesives specialist based near Munich, and it puts about 15% of its revenue into research and development. It presents itself as a supplier of the adhesive, the equipment that dispenses it and the lamps that cure it, and its materials turn up in semiconductor packaging, automotive sensors, smartphone cameras and fuel cells. This profile draws on what the company itself publishes: its revenue release, its sustainability report and the application pages on its website. It sets out what DELO makes in adhesives and encapsulants, what it puts into the business, and whom it works with.

Sources: DELO's website, its release on revenue for the year to March 2026 (12 May 2026) and its Sustainability Report FY2025/26 (with the integrated EMAS environmental statement), used as primary material. Last updated October 2026.

The one thing to grasp first

Adhesive companies fall into three broad types: general adhesives and chemicals, semiconductor and electronic materials, and UV-curing and specialty applications. DELO's main identity is that of a UV-curing and specialty specialist, with a secondary footprint in semiconductor and electronic materials Our calculation. The company describes itself as supplying everything from adhesive to dispensing to curing from a single source Sourced, so what it sells is not just resin but a process package: adhesive, dispensing equipment and light curing. When you read about a company like this, look beyond the material's properties to how many seconds it takes out of the customer's production line.

2. The logo and how the name is written

A note on names: the registered name of the head-office entity is DELO Industrie Klebstoffe GmbH & Co. KGaA (German for "DELO industrial adhesives"), and the company presents itself as DELO Industrial Adhesives. Its Japanese subsidiary is DELO Industrial Adhesives (Japan) Inc., in Yokohama. The company website links to a separate site for the DELO-HEROLD Foundation, which this profile does not cover. Several product brands also start with the company name, such as DELO-ML, DELO-QUICK, DELO-GUM and DELO-PUR.

3. Where the company sits in the adhesives and encapsulants field

Three types of company in adhesives and encapsulants Even among "adhesive companies", strengths and customers differ widely General adhesives & chemicals Semiconductor & electronic materials UV-curing & specialty applications Broad adhesive range sold worldwide Tuned with chipmakers' processes Cured by light, built for each use Henkel / H.B. Fuller Sika / Dow and others Resonac / Sumitomo Bakelite Indium and others Dymax / DELO Master Bond and others Broad uses and a global network Tailored to customers' processes Curing method and use-case tuning Follows economy and raw materials Follows chip demand swings Small scale, skewed customer base DELO is mainly UV-curing & specialty (right), and secondary in semiconductor materials (centre) Sells light-curing adhesives with dispensing and curing equipment, plus liquid chip-packaging materials
Fig. 1 The three types of company in adhesives and encapsulants, and DELO's position. The classification is this article's own, and the companies named are examples from those covered in this series Our calculation. DELO is built around light curing and dual curing, and the company names semiconductors, automotive and consumer electronics as its key industries (Reference 3).

4. Company size

DELO is privately held, and the financial information it publishes is limited to revenue, the regional split, R&D as a share of revenue and headcount Sourced. We could not find operating profit, net profit or total assets. Its financial year runs from April to the following March.

A caution

The revenue above is for the whole company, and DELO does not separate adhesive sales from sales of dispensing and curing equipment Not yet confirmed. Because adhesives are the company's core business, the total is a reasonable guide to the size of its adhesives and encapsulants activity, but the equipment sales included in it should be discounted. The company also describes its R&D intensity against the industry in different ways in different documents: the May 2026 release says "approximately four times the industry average", while the report dated August 2026 gives an industry average of about 6% (VCI 2024). This article uses only the 15% figure and not the multiple.

5. Resources committed to adhesives and encapsulants

DELO is almost entirely an adhesives company, so the company's resources are, in effect, its commitment to adhesives and encapsulants. The table sets out, for people, money, outside investment and university links, what we could and could not confirm from primary sources.

Type of resourceWhat we foundCategory
People1,215 employees at the end of March 2026 (press release). The sustainability report gives 1,227; we could not tell how the two counts differ. The company says development, and every production step for adhesives and equipment, takes place at its Windach headquartersSourced
People (R&D staff)Number of researchers or R&D staffNot disclosed

BIO-BASED PRODUCTSA wider rangeThe company says light-plus-moisture and light-plus-heat systems are also in development

The 2030 environmental goals also include a 10% improvement in electrical efficiency in existing buildings, a 40% cut in heating oil use and a 7.5% cut in hazardous waste Not yet confirmed. All of these are company targets, not results already achieved.

What we could not confirm

None of the following appears in the public material Not yet confirmed.

The Malaysian plant's investment, capacity and start-up date; a medium-term revenue target; operating and net profit; revenue split between adhesives and equipment; and revenue share by major customer. There is no primary source for any figure on how much DELO supplies to Apple, so this article gives none.

8. What the company seems to be aiming for

This part includes points the company has not stated directly. It sets out inferences from what the primary sources say, together with the evidence.

What can be read from the materialPrimary evidenceCategory
It puts selling adhesive, dispensing and light curing as one package at the centre of the businessThe company introduction says customers get everything from adhesive to dispensing to curing from a single source. The product pages list dispensing systems, conveying, UV curing lamps and system solutionsSourced
The package approach is meant to make the customer's process hard to change and keep the business recurringThe company says it combines adhesives with equipment and supports process design. It says nothing about customers' switching costsInference
It treats energy-saving, low-CO₂ curing as a selling point alongside material performanceThe report notes that most emissions arise during curing at the customer's site, and in 2026 DELO announced a run of light-curing and low-temperature productsSourced
It is designing materials with customers' product carbon footprint requirements in mindIt says it has calculated the footprint for many products. It does not describe any regulation or procurement requirement that asks for disclosureInference
The Malaysian plant is meant to produce closer to East Asian demand, which accounts for over half of revenue, and shorten lead times53% of revenue is East Asia and 7% Southeast Asia. The report says production in Malaysia will let it supply customers more quickly and strengthen delivery reliabilityInference (the faster supply is the company's statement)
It sees advanced semiconductor packaging (AI and HPC, co-packaged optics) as a next growth areaThe website has features on "AI and HPC" and "Heterogeneous Integration" and an application page for co-packaged optics. The revenue split by industry is not disclosedInference
One inference in more detail

On Malaysia, the company has moved in three steps: a subsidiary in 2021, a second subsidiary for production plus land in 2024, and in 2026 a plan to start construction at the end of the year Sourced. Meanwhile, 53% of revenue comes from East Asia and 7% from Southeast Asia, which shows that East Asia is the largest market. The natural reading, in this article's view, is that DELO is shifting from shipping out of a single German site towards making products closer to where demand is Not yet confirmed. The public material does not say which products will be made in Malaysia, or how the same quality standard will be kept across several sites.

9. Partnership map for adhesives and encapsulants

The customers shown are those the company names itself (Bosch, Mercedes-Benz, Siemens, Sony and Huawei), plus Apple, which mentions DELO in its own announcement. Joint research with universities or institutes, and investments, acquisitions or joint ventures, could not be confirmed, so none appears in the figure.

10. Technologies, products and services

DELO says it has about 400 standard products built on 12 basic chemical structures, and develops some of its raw materials itself Sourced. Its adhesive brands are organised by curing mechanism.

BrandBasic curing mechanism and chemistry (company description)
DELO PHOTOBONDLight-curing, setting in seconds. Some grades can be activated by light beforehand and bonded afterwards (pre-activation)
DELO KATIOBONDCationic light-curing epoxy. Pre-activation makes it usable on opaque parts that light cannot reach
DELO DUALBONDLight-fixable adhesives with a second curing mechanism, such as heat or moisture, that cures shadowed areas
DELO MONOPOXOne- or two-component heat-curing adhesives, including thermode curing
DELO-DUOPOX / DELO-PURRoom-temperature-curing two-component adhesives: epoxy-based, and polyurethane- or MS polymer-based
DELO-ML / DELO-QUICKAnaerobic-curing adhesives for metal parts, and an accelerator for their cure
DELO-GUMOne-component silicone adhesives (moisture curing)

For semiconductor packaging, the website lists the following uses.

UseWhat the company page says (manufacturer's stated values)
Die attachElectrically conductive and thermally conductive insulating materials. It cites a low Young's modulus combined with minimal thermal expansion, and results in JEDEC MSL and AEC-Q100 tests
Capillary underfillFor flip-chip and chip-scale packages with gaps under 50 µm. Curing from 90°C, low viscosity, low CTE, high glass transition temperature
Corner fill / edge bondReinforce only the corners or edges of a BGA. They cure at low temperature, which allows low-temperature solder
Dam & fill, glob top, wire encapsulationProtect wires as thin as 20 µm. Small fillers and low CTE. Stated to meet tests from MSL 1 to AEC-Q100 Grade 1
Micro damFlow stops for encapsulants, with line widths up to 50 µm. Pure UV, UV plus heat or pure heat curing
Lid attach, co-packaged opticsBonding of heat spreaders and filter glass. Adhesives for the optical and mechanical requirements of optical transceivers and PICs (photonic integrated circuits)

From the products announced in 2026, here are the ones with published figures, shown as the manufacturer's stated values. The grades and test conditions differ, so we do not rank them against each other.

Product (announced)UseManufacturer's stated values (from the release)
PHOTOBOND LA (20 May 2026)Bonding mirrors and cover windows in LiDARLight activation at 400 nm or 460 nm. 1.1 MPa after one hour (0.2 MPa for earlier products). Modulus stays low from -40 to +125°C. Condensable outgassing below 0.1%. After 500 hours of 85°C/85% RH and thermal-shock testing, 5 MPa on aluminium/glass and 4 MPa on aluminium/polycarbonate
PHOTOBOND SJ4192 (2 July 2026)Multi-purpose bonding of metal, glass and plastics62% renewable raw materials (precursors from corn and castor oil). Cures in seconds under UV or visible light. The release calls it the first DELO adhesive in which renewable content exceeds half, but the sustainability page says some KATIOBOND adhesives are more than 50% bio-based, so the two statements conflict
DUALBOND LT (SLT) (18 August 2026)Consumer electronics assemblyCures in as little as 10 minutes at 60°C, or one hour at 45°C, against 80°C or 90 to 120 minutes at 60°C for conventional steps. Productivity up to 2.5 times higher in customer projects
PHOTOBOND PS4140 (30 September 2026)Fixing gas diffusion layers in fuel cells (a liquid adhesive tape)Peel resistance up to 0.9 N/mm on PET/PET, Tg -10°C, water absorption 0.7 wt.%. Cures in 5 to 16 seconds at 400 nm
PHOTOBOND MG4202 and four other products (15 April 2026)Medical electronicsIBOA- and TPO-free. Biocompatibility tested to DIN EN ISO 10993-5 (cytotoxicity). MG4202 cures in one second at 1000 mW/cm², 400 nm, 100 µm layer thickness
A materials engineer's view: designing "when, where and how it sets" into the material

What marks out DELO is that it makes the curing mechanism, rather than the material's properties, the lead feature Sourced. Adhesives that cure with light have a weakness: shadowed areas that light cannot reach do not set. DELO tackles this in three ways. (1) Dual curing: fix in seconds with light, then cure the shadowed areas with heat or moisture. (2) Pre-activation of cationic epoxies: start the reaction with light during dispensing, then bond opaque parts and let the cure proceed (the "Activation on the Flow" process on the equipment side). (3) Low-temperature heat curing: cure at 45 to 60°C so that heat-sensitive parts such as small batteries can stay in the assembly. In every case, once the temperature and time are fixed, the molecular and formulation design has to deliver a low modulus (to avoid stressing optical parts) together with low thermal expansion and small fillers (for wire encapsulation).

The company says it swaps in bio-based raw materials where performance does not suffer (62% in SJ4192), and its report puts the bio-based share of raw materials overall at 10.9% (the scope is as defined in the report). For the CO₂ benefit of light curing, the report cites a case study of potting an automotive sensor in which emissions were 80% lower than with heat curing. That is the company's own estimate for one customer and one use and cannot be generalised Not yet confirmed.

11. Risks the company faces

RiskWhat it meansCategory
Tilt towards East Asia53% of revenue is East Asia, and 60% with Southeast Asia Our calculation. The company itself cites ongoing geopolitical uncertaintySourced
