COMPANY PROFILE / MATERIALS INFORMATICS

Chemspeed Technologies
It makes the equipment and software that run experiments automatically. It joined Bruker in 2024 and puts "self-driving labs" with AI in front

Chemspeed Technologies is a Swiss company founded in 1997. It makes modular equipment and control software that automate dispensing, synthesis, sample preparation, formulation and testing. In the materials informatics (MI) flow, it is the company that handles the step of actually making and testing what the AI proposed. In March 2024, the U.S. scientific-instrument maker Bruker acquired 100% of it (Bruker's announcement and U.S. SEC filings). This profile sets out, from official sources, the parent and the acquisition, what the equipment and software do, and the tie-ups with AI companies.

Built from Chemspeed's official website and news, and Bruker Corporation's U.S. SEC filings (Form 10-K) / Checked 22 October 2026

The one point to grasp first

Chemspeed is not "an AI company". It is the company that carries out, on real equipment and accurately, what an AI instructs Sourced. The official description is that the equipment is "AI-ready" and is run in a closed loop together with AI-driven experiment planning from partners. It sits between the "proposing side" (AI) and the "confirming side" (experiments), and takes on what is often the weak point of MI: the speed and reproducibility of experiments.

Note too that it joined Bruker in 2024, and the website now says "part of Bruker". Bruker says, however, that Chemspeed continues as an independent, vendor-agnostic business inside Bruker.

2. The logo and how the name is written

A note on names: the legal name is Chemspeed Technologies AG (as written in Bruker's 10-K; the 2025 edition says "Chemspeed Technologies"). Some of Bruker's 2024 announcements write Chemspeed AG. The official logo includes "PART OF BRUKER". The logo is the SVG on the official website.

3. Where the company sits in materials informatics

In the MI flow (data, then AI proposal, then narrowing by calculation, then confirmation by experiment), Chemspeed's role is to run that last step, confirmation by experiment, quickly and accurately with robots and software.

The four types of company in materials informatics Same "MI company" label, different strengths and gaps depending on where it sits: data, design or experiment Foundation models & compute MI software & materials AI Autonomous experiments & robotics Industrial users AI from data and compute Analysis tools and AI Robots run the experiments Battery, chemical, chip Google DeepMind/Microsoft Meta/NVIDIA Citrine/Schrödinger Preferred Networks/CuspAI Chemspeed/Radical AI Periodic Labs/Lila Sciences SES AI/Mitsui Chemicals Applied Materials Big compute and talent Usability and data Experiment throughput Real materials, markets Relies on others to test Depends on customer data Capex and reproducibility In-house talent and data Main type: "Autonomous experiments and robotics". Partners propose with AI; Chemspeed runs it Equipment does the dispensing and synthesis and links to analysers, data and AI in a closed loop
Fig. 1 The four types of company in materials informatics, and where Chemspeed sits. The classification is ours; company names are examples from firms covered in this series Our calculation. That its equipment and software form AI-ready self-driving labs (SDLs) comes from official sources.

A "self-driving lab" (SDL) works as a loop: AI decides the next experiment, equipment runs it, analysers measure it, and the data go back to the AI. Based on the company's explanations, here is who takes which part.

The self-driving lab (SDL) loop, and who does which part Our organisation of the explanations in the company's releases (Chemspeed with SciY, and with Atinary) 1. Plan AI proposes the next conditions 2. Make and run Equipment carries out the dispensing, synthesis 3. Measure NMR, IR and others analyse the result 4. Return the data Results are gathered, organised and sent back The data from 4 decide the next proposal in 1 (closed loop) AI: Atinary, Iktos and others Chemspeed: equipment and control Analysers: Bruker NMR, IR, Raman, XRD Data platform: SciY, ARKSUITE
Illustration The SDL loop (1 to 4) and who does each part. Chemspeed mainly takes step 2, and its control software (ARKSUITE) also takes part in scheduling and data management for the whole. The AI and data platform come from combining with partners; we could not confirm from official sources how far these are offered as a single contract or product.

4. Scale (parent Bruker and Chemspeed)

Chemspeed's revenue and headcount are not separately disclosed in Bruker Corporation's U.S. SEC filings. The parent's scale is shown briefly for the whole company Sourced.

A caution

The figures above are for the whole of Bruker and do not show the size of the Chemspeed business. Bruker's March 2024 announcement expected revenue of about US$10 million per quarter for the remaining three quarters of 2024, but this was an expectation at the time (forward-looking), and actual results are not separately disclosed in the 10-K Not yet confirmed. Some news outlets have reported 2023 revenue, but we use only what primary sources let us confirm and have not adopted those figures.

A materials engineer's view: what to think about before automating your own experiments

Chemspeed's pages show application examples of automation for porous materials (hydro- and solvothermal synthesis of MOFs, COFs and zeolites), polymers (each polymerisation method) and battery materials (electrode slurries, electrolyte formulation, coin-cell assembly) Sourced. What matters in practice for a materials engineer is "what should I automate so that the AI's proposals can be checked quickly?" For example, gravimetric dispensing of solids (mg to g) depends on how the powder behaves, so you need to check precision and reproducibility with your own powders.

The "AI-driven MOF discovery" example is a description of a set-up combining automated microwave synthesis, work-up and XRPD analysis (company material); it does not say which AI was used or which material was found. That equipment runs automatically is a separate matter from whether good materials are found.

Note: the closing date is "6 March 2024" in Bruker's 10-K and 7 March 2024 on Bruker's closing release, a one-day difference (probably the acquisition date against the announcement date, which we did not check). Also, the June 2025 Atinary release announced an "official launch in Q3 2025 at the demo lab in Basel", but the actual opening event was held on 13 November 2025 at the Füllinsdorf headquarters.

7. What comes next

All of these are the company's plans and goals, kept separate from achieved facts Sourced Not yet confirmed.

What we could not confirm

None of the following is stated in official sources Not yet confirmed.

Chemspeed's stand-alone revenue, headcount and operating result; actual discovery cases from the AI tie-ups (measured data on materials); the price and licence terms of the SDL platform; the current state of Atinary's Boston lab; and application in materials of the Iktos collaboration.

8. What the company is aiming for in materials informatics

This part includes things the company has not said directly. It sets out inferences we draw from primary sources, with the evidence.

What we read from itPrimary-source basisType
It is trying to be an execution base not tied to any one AIIt works with several, including Atinary, SciY and Iktos. It stresses "vendor-agnostic" and "AI-ready", and connects to any AI assistant through an MCP serverInference
It is giving more weight to software and services than to equipment sales aloneARKSUITE (orchestration), MCP and the SDL platform. Gleixner's remark that it delivers "not only a platform, but a service engine"Inference
It uses the strength of being able to make proposals together with analysers under BrukerMany product pages describe automated links to NMR, IR, Raman and XRD. The 10-K also positions "vendor-agnostic automation"Inference
In MI, the main targets are porous materials, polymers and battery materialsOfficial application pages (porous materials, polymers, batteries) and application examplesSourced
It stresses cutting the coordination work of AI and peopleThe Agentic workflows page sets out the issue of robot utilisation and researchers' coordination time (a company claim whose study conditions are not disclosed)Inference
One inference in more detail

In the February 2026 release, Gleixner speaks of "vendor-agnostic orchestration" for running a closed DMTA loop around the clock, and says it delivers "not only a platform, but a service engine" Sourced. A 2026 page also sets out a sequence in which an AI assistant connected through the ARKSUITE MCP server looks at inventory and equipment status, proposes the next experiment, a person approves it, and the equipment runs it.

Taken together, we read Chemspeed as shifting its weight from selling equipment toward "execution and operations software and services" that connect AI and experiments Inference. How large a share of revenue that is has not been disclosed.

9. Map of partnerships in materials informatics

10. Technology, products and services

Chemspeed's products are easiest to understand in three groups: equipment (hardware), control software and application examples (pre-assembled configurations).

ItemWhat the company showsConditions and cautions
EquipmentModules for gravimetric solid dispensing, liquid dispensing, synthesis (ambient to pressurised, microwave and others), sample preparation, formulation, and measurement of rheology and viscosity. Modules are combined to build a labConfigurations differ by customer. The official application examples number 39 for porous materials and 57 for polymers (as shown on the pages)
Control softwareAUTOSUITE designs and runs workflows for individual experiments. ARKSUITE manages scheduling, inventory and data for the whole lab, and connects to outside systems (AI, LIMS and others) by a REST API and an MCP serverAI that can connect is described as "MCP-capable" (Claude, GPT-4, DeepSeek and custom models are given as examples). Actual connection results could not be confirmed
Claims about AI operation"The robot was occupied for 11 hours of a 40-hour week; the other 29 hours it waited on a human decision" and "35 to 45% of researchers' time goes on coordination"Said to come from the company's own study, but its target, period and method are not disclosed. A company claim
Customer commentThe company reports that Merck KGaA said its return on a powder-dispensing system came within four monthsA customer statement as reported by the company. Conditions unknown
QualityObtained ISO 9001 certification in December 2024Company announcement

Note: every figure is a company statement. We could not find independent third-party confirmation, or measured data on materials discovered with the equipment.

A materials engineer's view: bringing it close to your own lab

1. Look at reproducibility in numbers. Automatic running reduces the spread in conditions, but you still need to check precision with your own powders, solvents and vessels. The precision of solid dispensing (mg to g) changes with powder flow and moisture uptake.

2. How it connects to AI. In a design where any AI assistant can connect through MCP, the AI's proposed conditions are run only after the equipment side has validated them (inventory, safety, range). Deciding in advance what to leave to AI and what a person approves will shape how usable it is on the floor.

3. The form of the data. The link with SciY aims at collecting FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data. How well that fits your own data formats (connection to ELN and LIMS) is something to check before adoption.

11. The risks this company carries

RiskDetailType
Its place within the parent's businessFor the year to December 2025, Bruker recorded a goodwill impairment of US$96.5 million in the third quarter across two reporting units, Automation and Bruker Spatial Biology (the 10-K does not split the two). Goodwill from the Chemspeed acquisition in 2024 was US$127.8 millionSourced
Stand-alone results cannot be seenChemspeed's revenue, profit and headcount are not disclosed. The effect of AI tie-ups on the business cannot be judged from outsideSourced
Evidence for AI resultsThe AI tie-ups are at the announcement stage, and no measured data on materials discovered have been publishedSourced
Breadth of partnerships and prioritiesIt works with Atinary, SciY and Iktos, but where it places weight has not been disclosed. Whether the vendor-agnostic stance can coexist with deep integration in each case is unclearInference
Generality and reproducibility of experimentsConfigurations differ by customer, and equipment alone does not guarantee that another lab will get the same result (a general issue)Inference
Schedule slippageThe opening of the Atinary demonstrator lab moved from the announced Q3 2025 to 13 November. The state of the Boston lab cannot be confirmedSourced
