Smartex Yarn has unveiled a Nylon-Modal-Tencel blend summer shirt fabric incorporating thermoregulation technology. This innovative fabric integrates Phase Change Material (PCM) microcapsules, enabling intelligent thermal management that absorbs and releases heat in response to the wearer’s body temperature. This allows wearers to experience greater comfort, even in hot summer environments, and reduces discomfort during activities. The technology creates new value in the apparel market by combining functionality with the natural, comfortable feel of natural fibers.
Technical / Clinical Details
The developed fabric is an optimally blended composition of three types of fibers: nylon, modal, and Tencel, known for their excellent moisture absorption, breathability, and softness. Within this blended fiber matrix, microcapsules containing a PCM with a specific melting point (e.g., paraffin-based) are uniformly dispersed. When the wearer’s body temperature rises and the skin surface temperature exceeds the capsule’s melting point, the PCM microcapsules absorb excess heat and liquefy (latent heat storage). This promotes heat dissipation from the body and provides a cooling sensation. Conversely, when body temperature drops and the PCM inside the capsules solidifies, it slowly releases the stored latent heat, keeping the body warm. This process is fully reversible and occurs without compromising the fabric’s feel or breathability. The fabric’s heat storage capacity is measured at 40-60 J/m², representing an approximately 20-30% improvement in thermal management performance compared to conventional summer fabrics.
