Technical Details

This acceleration is achieved by adopting 224G SerDes (Serializer/Deserializer) technology for the electrical interface, bundling eight 200G-PAM4 (Pulse Amplitude Modulation 4-level) lanes. The OSFP (Octal Small Form-Factor Pluggable) form factor enables high-density port configurations, improving space efficiency within data center racks.

The introduction of LPO and LRO represents a major technical advancement for 1.6T Ethernet. Traditional optical transceivers required DSPs for signal compensation, but DSPs were significant contributors to power consumption, latency, and complex thermal design. LPO/LRO eliminates the DSP, dramatically reducing transceiver power consumption, minimizing signal delay, and simplifying thermal management. This delivers the low latency and high efficiency essential for AI workloads.
