Greensteel Australia has unveiled plans for a new green steel plant in Newcastle, New South Wales, with an annual production capacity of 600,000 tonnes. Green steel addresses this challenge by replacing traditional coal-based blast furnace processes with new methods that utilize renewable electricity and/or hydrogen as reducing agents. Newcastle, historically known as a “steel city” rich in coal resources, sees this project as a symbol of its industrial transition.
